Hospitality Sector Launch Builds Momentum in Yamhill County

The launch of the Leisure and Hospitality sector initiative in Yamhill County earlier this month marked a strong step forward in aligning industry voices around shared challenges and opportunities. Hosted at Stoller Family Estate, the event brought together a varied group of employers, partners, and stakeholders who actively participated in identifying priorities for the sector’s growth in the region. Through the Next Gen Sector Partnership process, several clear themes emerged. Most notably, industry leaders highlighted the need to strengthen tourism, expand shoulder-season activity, and invest in marketing and training. Attendees emphasized the importance of workforce development, recruitment, and retention. They also underscored the need to create clear career pathways that showcase hospitality as a meaningful, well-paying career, while helping build a stronger, more resilient talent pipeline.

At the same time, participants were candid about the barriers holding the sector back. Economic uncertainty, rising operational costs, and a limited talent pool surfaced as top concerns, alongside a perceived lack of local, coordinated marketing and tourism promotion. Despite these challenges, the energy in the room was notably optimistic. The strong participation and willingness to collaborate signaled a shared commitment to solutions, particularly around improving communication, building partnerships, and leveraging local assets like agritourism to drive year-round demand.

Looking ahead, the group identified several immediate next steps to maintain momentum. These include organizing sector-specific working groups, identifying “quick wins” that can be implemented in the near term, and establishing champions to lead priority initiatives. There was also a clear call for deeper collaboration with support partners to address gaps in resources, training, and regional promotion. Overall, the launch event not only clarified the path forward but also reinforced a sense of collective ownership, supporting a more unified and sustainable future for Yamhill County’s leisure and hospitality sector.

Thank you to Stoller Family Estate for being such amazing hosts! We especially appreciate the many community partners who supported this initiative. We couldn’t have done it without their guidance and support.
